Recent awards include a Barlow Endowment Commission and the Royaumont Prize of Domaine Forget, which consisted of an expenses paid residency at the Royaumont Abbey north of Paris.
Recent projects include commissions from the La Jolla Symphony directed by Bang on a Can All-Star Steven Schick, from guitarist Pablo Gomez and from The Del Mar College Concert Band.
Benjamin Sabey’s music has been performed by many of the leading ensembles in new music, including the Arditti String Quartet, Neue Vocalsolisten Stuttgart, Le Nouvel Ensemble Moderne, the New York New Music Ensemble, the Antares Ensemble and members of the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, the New Millennium Ensemble, Red Fish Blue Fish and the Talujon Percussion Quartet.
Mr. Sabey holds a PhD from the University of California, San Diego where he studied primarily with Roger Reynolds. He has have also studied composition with Chaya Czernowin, Philippe Manoury and Michael Hicks as well as computer music with Miller Puckette and psycho-acoustics with Richard Moore. He is currently a professor at San Diego Mesa College.
